Through the years, the inkjet printer has evolved with each new model becoming more advanced than its predecessor. To date, the number of individuals and businesses that use printers continues to grow but in spite of the fact that there are new printing technologies introduced in the market, some people or offices still prefer inkjet printers over new printer models or technologies.
Actually, an inkjet printer prints slower than the more advanced thermal-transfer printer, dye-sublimation printer and even laserjet printers. The user will also have to wait for a few minutes for the ink to dry up on the printouts. But users would sometimes prefer the inkjet printer because it requires no warm-up period. People and offices who do not print that much find it more practical to use an inkjet printer because ink cartridges are cheaper than toner cartridges. This makes printing cost per page cheaper.
Inkjet printers also has its share of disadvantages. For one, the print heads for inkjet printers are more fragile and more prone to clogging. They are also costly especially for medium-to-high volumes of printing applications.
The user must also take extra care in handling documents printed using inkjet printers. Why? Because the printer ink is water-soluble so even just a tiny drop of liquid can cause the print to run or to blur. The use of highlighter marker on documents printed from inkjet printers is also not advisable because the moisture coming from the highlighting ink may cause existing prints to smudge or blur.
Inkjet printers are also more sensitive and choosy when it comes to papers. Using the wrong type of paper or a paper that has low substance may lead to ink bleeding. In this case, the ink is carried to a side away from the preferred location via capillary action through the paper fibers. As such, the prints become smudges. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why some printer manufacturers have thought of selling specialized papers to match their inkjet printers but these paper products are expensive and may have a different texture or size.
In general, inkjet printers may be a more practical choice for people or businesses who do not do bulk printing but for those who print often and who are always in a hurry, you may have to review the other printer alternatives.
