• Step 1 - Make sure that the Brother HL-3170CDW is turned on.
  
• Step 2 - Open the top cover of your Brother HL-3170CDW until it locks in the open position.
• Step 3 - Take out the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly for the color shown on the LCD.
• Step 4 - Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.
• Step 5 - Unpack the new Brother TN221 laser toner cartridge. Hold the cartridge level with both hands and gently shake it from side to side several times to spread the toner evenly inside the cartridge.
• Step 6 - Pull off the protective cover.
