Brother MFC-9130CW LED Color Laser Printer: Features and Specifications

It’s in mid year of 2013 when a new range of LED-based multifunction printers from Brother was introduced. One of them is the Brother MFC-9130CW that offers color LED printing technology and wireless connectivity. It is unusual though that its manufacturer removed the duplexing functionality as it could have been an added edge for it.

Talking about duplex printing, its competitor which is the MFC-9330CDW almost offers the same bundle of features and capabilities, yet it still managed to offer a duplexer. Should we mention these two are tagged with the same price? If you unluckily purchased the MFC-9130CW without knowing it doesn’t support such feature, you can still print two-sided documents though. However, manually you have to feed the paper side by side, one page at a time.

Its two-toned shade of white and gray is typical or perhaps a trademark of Brother’s MFC series. A 3.7-inch color touchscreen LCD display adds a little high-end look on its swept-back panel. Another special about its control panel is the keypad which only lit up when the user press or use Fax functionality. So when no one’s using the unit as a standalone fax machine, the only visible buttons are Start and Stop.

Instead of laser lights, LED printers use a different source which is one of the factors why most of these types of units are generally smaller in sizes compared to laserjet. But still, they require similar supplies in order to work, these include Brother TN221 laser toner cartridges and imaging drum units.

Paper capacity is short at a maximum of 250-sheets via the standard input tray. An automatic document feeder would be a great help, but in place of it they simply included a one-page manual feed slot.

The Brother MFC-9130CW can be connected to a host computer via USB cable, Ethernet network or WiFi. Such options would be enough to accommodate your printing preferences, whether you want wired or wireless. Wi-Fi direct is supported which lets users print directly through their WiFi-enabled devices to the printer without the presence of a network. Some other apps you may consider include Apple AirPrint, Brother iPrint&Scan, Google Cloud Print and Cortado WorkPlace.

We want to mention its printing speed at this part so you won’t be disappointed earlier. Kidding aside, its manufacturer rated it at 19 pages per minute (mono and color), and that’s not considerable for an LED type printer that comes with high-end features. Output quality isn’t that much impressive according to a review conducted by PCMag. Overall the Brother MFC-9130CW is just an average color laser printer.
