Performing Cold Reset and Calibrating the Printer to Fix Print Quality Issue in HP Color LaserJet 3800 Printers

HP Color LaserJet 3800 Series is a set of 3 color laser printers that are engineered to deliver excellent color graphics and business materials for working environment. Included in this printer series are the Color LaserJet 3800n, Color LaserJet 3800dn and Color LaserJet 3800dtn. This series of printer uses HP 3800 toner cartridges (501A, 503A): HP Q6470A black toner, HP Q7581A cyan toner, HP Q7582A yellow toner, and HP Q7583A magenta toner. But similar to any other hp laser printers, the HP Color LaserJet 3800 printers are prone to common issues and problems including printing quality issues from time to time. 

And for today’s article, we’re going to provide the troubleshooting procedure on how to fix such printer quality issues.

To fix the problem, you have to cold reset your machine first and here are the following steps as provided by the HP Support Center: (Note: These steps applies as well for the HP Color LaserJet 3000 Printer Series & HP Color LaserJet 3600 Printer Series)

Remember that a cold reset clears all data from the printer memory and sets all the defaults back to the factory settings. And it unlocks menus that have been previously locked and resets all control-panel menu items to the factory defaults.

Perform a cold reset

1. Turn the printer on.
   
2. Watch the control panel.
3. When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green Select button. Continue to hold Select button until all three Control Panel LED's are illuminated and on solid.
4. Release the Select button.
5. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE.
6. Press Down Arrow button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET.
7. Press Select. The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.
8. After performing the Cold Reset procedure above, a Configuration Page may now print a banner in purple instead of blue. Perform a FULL CALIBRATE NOW.
9. A cold reset clears all data from the printer memory and sets all the defaults back to the factory settings.

After these procedures, the next thing you need to do is to calibrate your printer. Doing this procedure will optimizes print quality. If there are issues regarding the print-quality problems, calibrating the printer will solve the issue.

• Step 1 - Press Menu.
• Step 2 - Press down arrow to highlight CONFIGURE DEVICE, and then press checkmark.
• Step 3 - Press down arrow to highlight PRINT QUALITY, and then press checkmark.
• Step 4 - Press down arrow to highlight FULL CALIBRATE NOW, and then press checkmark.
