Kyocera Develops the Fastest Printhead in the World

Kyocera Corporation has recently launched a high-resolution printhead that uses a unique proprietary design technology. This unique technology allows the printhead a print speed of 50mm per second, making this the fastest printhead in the world.

The new printhead is the latest addition to Kyocera’s KLE series. The KLE series is a series of thermal printhead models usually used for card printing applications. They are used in printing documents or files on hard materials like PVC IDs and credit cards. What makes this new printhead different from the others is it can print in 300-dpi, full-color and high resolution printing. Best of all, the new printhead is currently the fastest thermal printhead in the world. It can print 50 millimeters per second.

Kyocera made some improvements on the KLE series printheads. The new structure of the printheads uses the company’s newest design technology which increased its print speed as compared to its predecessors. Prior to the launching of this new printhead, Kyocera is already a forerunner in terms of print speed.

The new printhead has the proprietary double partial glaze (DPG). This is fitted in the real edge head. A real edge printhead places the heating device on the edge of the substrate. This allows printing without bending the media. This is one of the reasons why real edge printheads are commonly-used for hard materials like plastic cards.

Going back to the DPG, this technology uses the convex shape of the heat-storage glaze layer. It can increase the thermal efficiency for printing which, in turn, improves the print speed by as much as 1.5 times more than those of the other printhead models. This also gives better print quality as it uses a split structure for the heating device.

Kyocera’s new printhead is expected to be rolled out in the market by March 1.
