It has already been studied that a printer’s printing speed depends on the “pages per minute” indicated which can be a factor that you will look at when you are choosing your printer. However, there are those who are still confused on how the printer manufacturers measure this since it is not explained on the printer’s package. Here are the basics things to know about the “pages per minute” specification.
The leading printer makers namely HP, Canon, and Epson follow the standard process of measuring the printing speed which was made by International Organization for Standardization or ISO. ISO has created files in the Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat (PDF) formats that are four pages in length to test how long will it take for a printer to create outputs.
However, the timing for the printing speed has two methods which can be used depending on how you want to explain the period of printing. These two are the Effective Throughput (EFTP) and Estimated Saturated Throughput (ESAT). Although the timing when the printer starts to print and when the paper comes out of the printer can be different in these two methods, both give an overview on how fast a
printer could be.
There are also times that a printer cartridge can affect the printing speed of a printer. A good way to have your printed files made at the exact “pages per minute” detail is to use the right compatible printer cartridges on your printer.
