To maintain the Canon 117 toners in fine condition, make sure to take note of these things (from Manuals Libray):
  1. It’s important to keep the toner cartridges away from computer screens and disk drives since the magnets inside the toner cartridge may harm these items.
  2. Avoid locations subjects to high temperature, high humidity or rapid changes in temperature since this is more likely to cause damage to your toner cartridge and can cause it to be defective.
  3. Never expose the toner cartridges to direct sunlight or bright light for more than five minutes. Such exposure may cause damage to the toner cartridge and leave it defective.
  4. Store the cartridges in their protective bags. Never open these bags until you are ready to install the toner cartridges in the machine.
  5. Never store the cartridges in a salty atmosphere or in places where there are corrosive gases such as from aerosol sprays.
  6. Do not remove the toner cartridges from your imageCLASS MF8450c printer.
  7. Never open the drum protective shutter on the toner cartridges. The print quality may deteriorate if the drum surface is exposed to light or is damaged.
  8. Always hold the toner cartridges by their handles to avoid touching the drum protective shutter.
  9. Never place the toner cartridges in an upright position or upside position because if the toner becomes caked in the toner cartridges, it may become impossible to free it even by shaking the toner cartridges.

If the toner cartridges had leaked then make sure not to inhale or touch the toner powder. However, if it makes contact with your skin then rinse with cold water using soap. If ever you feel any irritation on your skin or inhale the toner powder then consult the doctor immediately. Lastly, when removing the toner cartridges from the imageCLASS MF8450c, make sure to remove carefully. If not removed with care, the toner powder may scatter and come in contact with your eyes and mouth. And if this happens, rinse it with water and consult a doctor immediately.
