Output Color Mismatch with HP Color LaserJet CP1515N Printer on Mac PC
Color matching between the printer and a GUI-based app such as Microsoft Office applications is really something too intricate to fully understand, especially for someone who just bought a printer mainly for personal use. We’re not even knowledgeable enough regarding the matter so we can’t give you much detail about it, though we can help you on some part. Like we can say the PCL driver you’re using with your printer greatly affects the quality of prints you get from your machine, and that’s a fact.

Just for a brief history about HP’s PCL driver. The higher versions or models of HP LaserJet printers starting from the 4000 series were the ones that first started to use the PCL 6 driver. In able to print complex graphics from GUI interfaces such as Windows, an object-oriented PDL (page description language) was developed by HP and is now widely known as PCL.

Now going back to our main topic, HP printers typically comes standard with Universal Printer Driver. So if you haven’t tried updating your machine to the latest PCL 6 driver, there’s a great chance that you might deal with Color Mismatch issue. Also, the HP 1515 cartridges could also be part of the contributing factors why you are having such problem with your printer.

For Mac OS computers and laptops that are using Microsoft Office applications, there’s a quite easy way to make your printer work the way you want it to be. This method will actually force the unit’s color management system to become dominant instead of the one in the operating system, more likely that.

Here’s how to set the color management to occur In Printer:

  • Run Microsoft Office application and from the top menu click File.

  • Scroll down and locate the Print command, it is basically next to Print Preview or you can also use the shortcut key command.

  • The Print Dialogue box will appear. Click the third drop-down menu, by default it is set to Copies & Pages, change it by selecting ColorSyn.

  • Right below the ColorSyn option, click the drop-down menu next to Color Conversion.

  • Change the default set option from Standard to In Printer. With this option, ColorSync creates device independent color for PostScript printer.

  • Save the changes you made and try to print a file or any document with color graphics and see if the hues of color from the printed result match the original color from the file in your screen.

  • Color mismatch issue is something that can only occur between an HP printer and a Mac PC, it can also happen with a Windows OS PC.
