When to Replace the Brother DR510 Drum Unit and TN540 Toner Cartridge

The question of when to replace the drum or toner of your printer can be answered simply by looking at the error message that appears on the screen of your machine. But what if it doesn’t feature an LCD and you will just have to rely on the indicator lights.

There are factors that even without the low toner warning from the screen, you may determine that soon you will have to get a new replacement. For example, the qualities of printouts you get from it are a bit unpleasant or rather unacceptable. It is one possible sign that the cartridge is running of toners which means soon you need a new one to replace it.

Also, if you’re aware of the page capacity of your supplies and you can roughly estimate the amount of printed pages you already got from it, then it would be easier to anticipate when to get a replacement. The same thing applies with the imaging drum unit, although it is capable of delivering higher page yields, sooner or later you will still need to replace it. If you noticed we provided two toners, one of them is a standard-yield which is the TN540 while the other one is of course the high-yield. Both work with the Brother DR510 drum so you don’t have to be concern about the model number.

What we’re trying to point here is the page capacity of each component. If you use the TN540 with the DR510, you will have to replace the drum after you have replaced the toner for like five times or less. How did we determine? Just look at their page yields (20,000 divide by 3,500) and you’ll get the answer. Well of course it would be different if you’re using the high-yield, but we certainly hope that you get our point.

Now with this method that we told you, at least preparing yourself before the printer prompts you with a low toner error wouldn’t be that surprising at all. It’s also a good thing to always keep some spare of toners and drums just in case there are unexpected failures that caused either of your current supplies to become obsolete.
